Accommodation Options ON MAFIA ISLAND
We are lucky to be able to offer our guests different options for their accommodation needs whilst they are staying on Mafia Island.
Our on-site accommodation and restaurant/bar facilities are designed for the “budget-minded” traveller. Our philosophy is to offer clean, basic facilities with locally-sourced ingredients to try to keep your accommodation and food costs down. This means you have more money to explore the fantastic diving sites that Mafia has to offer!
Please note that Big Blu is located within the boundaries of the Mafia Island Marine Park and, as such, guests will be required to pay daily Marine Park fees at the gates before arriving at Big Blu. The fee is currently $20 + VAT per person per day, but please check with the Mafia Island Marine Park (MIMP) for up to date information. Please note that the Marine Park DO NOT ACCEPT CASH. Should you not have a credit card, you can get a pre-paid card in Kilindoni (near airport).
For guests who may only want to do a few days of activities, we also have off-site accommodation options which are outside of the Marine Park boundaries. This means that you will only have to pay the Marine Park fees on the days that you come over to the Marine Park.
On-Site Accommodation
Safari tents at Butiama Marine Camp:
Located in the gardens behind the Diving Centre, we have several safari tents. These tents have a light, power socket, twin beds, an electric fan and safety deposit boxes inside. They have access to communal toilets and showers. Linen and towels are provided. Designed especially to accommodate our divers, we have packages available which include your airport transfers, accommodation and diving.
Bungalows at Butiama Marine Camp:
Located a stones-throw away from the Diving Centre, we have several bungalows. These recently up-dated bungalows offer private bathrooms with hot water, outside seating, air conditioning, and twin beds (convertible to a double) with mosquito nets. Linen and towels are provided.
Restaurant/Bar:
Breakfast is included with room prices. A lunch/snack menu is available during the day with food priced from Tsh.4000 – 12000. We offer a daily 3 course dinner menu for $12. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate.
Complimentary tea and coffee are available at the drink station in our restaurant. Bottles of water and other beverages can be ordered from the bar and charged to your room.
Off-Site Accommodation
Rooms at Butiama Bustani Hotel
Located near the Airport, around a 20 minute drive to the Dive Centre, on the other side of the island, we will have 10 modern rooms available in our new hotel. Completed mid-2017, each room has a private bathroom (inc. hot water), air conditioning, television and twin or double beds with mosquito nets. The hotel also has a large swimming pool and bar/restaurant area. Transfers will be arranged daily to the Dive Centre.
Rooms at Butiama Beach Lodge
Located in Kilindoni, with a beach-front location, Butiama Beach Lodge is approximately 20 minutes’ drive to the Dive Centre. We have several bungalows available. Each room has a private bathroom (inc. hot water), large private terraces with seating area and hammock, twin or double beds with mosquito nets and electric fans. There is also an on-site swimming pool, spa, restaurant and bar. Transfers can be arranged daily to the Dive Centre.pool and bar/restaurant area. Transfers will be arranged daily to the Dive Centre.
